House Damage & Fix-Up

We got home and things didn't look too bad in our house until we began to look and smell closer...The renters obviously had a cat and a dog which we had a no pets policy.  Our neighbors actually saw the cat in the window and another neighbor saw the dog outside.  The dog damaged our Certainteed glass sliding door by scratching it all up and down.  Cat hair was everywhere inside, dog hair everywhere outside.  But the two worst things were the melted carpet in the master bedroom and the awful cat urine smell in our spare bedroom which will be the baby's room.  Here are the photos from this awful journey...

We could tell this was the area where the cat was urinating due to the terrible smell emanating from this region.  Sure enough, we cut a square and look at what we found...urine stains!

The urine seeped down into the tack board holding the carpet and was on the concrete subfloor.  AWFUL and potential for mold.

The cat smell was on the curtain hanging down and on the wall itself.  We bleached the heck out of this room (subfloor, wall etc)  Can you tell the discoloration of the paint due to the bleach?!

The cat sprayed urine all down the side of that wall.  The smell was horrendous!

Melted carpet...how did this happen???

Outlet covers off two outlets...How hard is it to replace two covers that only cost $0.22?!

And weirdness in our office...a missing light switch...we took off the cover and found the guts of the light switch missing...WEIRD and a fire hazard!  Shane replaced this right away.

Cat hair on our entry way closet shelf...it obviously slept up here...and wasn't cleaned.

So here's some of what Shane did...he replaced the flooring in the three bedrooms.  We decided to go with laminate wood floors becuase it's so much better for allergies and a cleaner product.  It is disgusting whatgets trapped in carpet!  And we chose to go light as it doesn't show scratches as easily.  Our dark cherry wood flooring will eventually get replaced as there is slight damage and we will match it to the flooring in the bedrooms.  But that won't be for a while.  We want to do privacy fencing around our house first.
The color we chose.
Our future baby's room and my scrap room.  We still have to put closet doors back on and do base moulding.  The big armoire on the left is slowly getting filled with baby things thanks to family and friends.  We will be looking for a crib this same honey color and will decorate into a jungle theme with lots of monkeys per Shane's request.

Our office...The gigantic desk unit really dwarfs the room or so it looks in this picture...but there is actually more room than this picture shows.

Shane did an amazing job on the floors, doing a floor a day.  We saved the "pee" room for last.  Yuck!!!
