OLD POST: October already?!

***The following was a draft of a post sitting in my blog's editing phase for 2 months, so decided to publish it anyway now that I am returning to blogging.  Or at least my attempt to return.  I suppose I should attach an October pic of him.

Wow this month is flying!  October is almost over!  Soon it will be November, Thanksgiving, and then Christmas time!  Holy cow!!!

Here is what has been going on in our household this month:

Kade is growing SO fast, like usual.  For some reason, as a parent, I didn't think it would be quite as noticeable, but every day we look at him and see what a boy he is becoming.

His top two front teeth are starting to sprout now.  We noticed them the first week of October when we were playing and tipping him upside down, then glimpsed a flash of white.  It just made me want to take more pics of his little gummy smiles before it completely disappears.

Kade had his first visit to the hospital's emergency room.  On Thursday afternoon, October 6th, Kade was feeling hot to the touch.  His temp turned out to be 102.1.  We gave him baby Tylenol, and it went down to 101.1...but just a few hours later, around 9:30 PM, it had jumped back up to 103.3 and he was vomiting.  So I decided to take him into the emergency room on base.  Shane followed us in because it happened to be his first night on mids, working at 11:30 PM  to 9 AM.  When we got there we learned that a Marine had been killed while out in the field...a truck had rolled over on top of him.  With deaths, they bring the body to the naval hospital first before going down to Camp Pendleton for the autopsy.  This meant a delay in Kade being seen.  We decided to wait it out.  We finally got in at midnight, about 2 hours after our arrival.  They had to route us through the side of the ER so we would not see the arrival of the body.   After being checked out we learned Kade had an ear infection.  This was surprising because I had taken Kade to his doctor just a few weeks prior as I suspected he might have one and the doctor said no.  Now all of a sudden he had one.  They gave him Motrin for the fever and amoxycillin for the infection.  We learned that he weighed 9.8 kg which is about 21.6 pounds with his clothes and diaper ON.  So he probably weighs almost 21 pounds.
While in the back with the curtain surrounding us, the Marine's body arrived.  What a surreal experience knowing that a loss just occurred and is right in front of you.  We could see the stretchers wheels under our curtain, moving him into another room.

We took Kade to a pumpkin patch.  There is a place in Oak Glen, California called Riley's Farm that is a little colonial village.  They have all sorts of things going on there.  But we mostly went for the pumpkins and apples.  The apples were all gone, picked over...but they still had a lot of pumpkins.  We got two, a white one and a classic orange one.  It was nice to get out of the desert for a bit.  Oak Glen is really beautiful!  Kade liked it and I got a few good pictures.  No family pic, but we got a couple pics of each other with Kade.

Shane is now working the night shift.  It is an awful adjustment for all of us.  Shane tries to sleep during the day, but try telling a very active 10 month old boy to shhh....he is extremely vocal right now and loves to bang on things.  Needless to say, Shane doesn't get much sleep during the days on the nights he works and plays catch up on the nights he's off.  He has to do this shift until the 1st of January.

Kade has been doing many new things.
DANCING!!!  He has always loved music like most babies, but the past couple months he does the feet stomping and head nodding of a baby dance.  He loves when we watch the Ellen DeGeneres Show as he will dance during all the music parts.  He will also dance to some of the songs I sing.  As I was cooking in the kitchen the other night I was singing as he was playing with the tupperware.  Then he just started to dance and hum along with me.
HUMMING!!!!  He just started humming last week.
GAME OF CHASE!!!!  He loves to be chased.  He teases by running almost up to you then doing a u-turn and running away.  He loves when we pretend we are going to get him and chase after him.  He runs away giggling his head off.
PUTTING OBJECTS IN CONTAINERS!!!!  His favorite thing to carry around is his orange pumpkin.  He will walk around putting things into his bucket.
DADA!!!  He started saying dada a few weeks ago and would just chant it over and over.
LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY!!!!  He loves to make us laugh so when he sees us laughing he will keep doing the thing that made us laugh or will laugh harder and the cycle continues.
CLIMBING!!!  He loves boxes and will climb on top of them then stand like he's the king of the mountain.  GETTING INTO EVERYTHING!!!!  He opens drawers, tosses things out, His favorite rooms right now are Mom & Dad's room and bathroom.  He goes straight for our bathroom drawers.  He also loves my scrapbooking cabinet and throws my papers on the floor.  Needless to say our door is often shut.  He also loves the kitchen....especially the refrigerator.  He will run across the room if he hears the refrigerator door opening, then climb inside and try to grab Daddy's Vitamin water.
DOGS!!!  His fascination with dogs continues.  He screams in excitement when he sees them.
OUTSIDE!!!  He loves going outside.  He can open the patio door.  I have found him a few times out on our little cement patio staring after our dog, Cyrus.  He just loves going outside!
